In short
WHM (WebHost Manager) is your control panel as a reseller: you create packages and client accounts, suspend and upgrade them, and brand the service. cPanel is the panel each client logs in to for their own website, email, databases and files.
Two panels, two jobs
| WHM | cPanel | |
|---|---|---|
| Who uses it | You, the reseller | Each client |
| Manages | All your clients’ accounts | One account |
| Typical tasks | Packages, new accounts, suspensions, resource use | Email, files, databases, WordPress, SSL |
WHM tasks you’ll use every week
- Create a New Account: domain, username, password and package; the client gets their cPanel.
- Add a Package / Edit a Package: your hosting plans (how).
- List Accounts: search, log in to a client’s cPanel in one click, check disk use.
- Suspend / Unsuspend: for unpaid invoices (WHMCS can do this automatically).
- Upgrade / Downgrade an Account: move a client to a bigger package.
- Reset a password when a client is locked out.
What clients do in cPanel
- Create email accounts and set them up on phones (email on your phone).
- Install WordPress and other apps with Softaculous.
- Upload files, manage databases and subdomains.
- See their own backups and resource use.
Branding
Add your logo to cPanel so clients see your brand when they log in, and give them your private nameservers. See white-label branding.
Logging in
Your WHM login is in your welcome email. Clients log in to cPanel with the username and password you set, at yourdomain.com.ng/cpanel or through your WHMCS client area.
