Short answer
Both are Nigerian domains run by NiRA. .com.ng is the long-established address for businesses, while .ng is the shorter national domain (yourbrand.ng) open to anyone. Many businesses register both so customers find them either way.
| .com.ng | .ng | |
|---|---|---|
| Example | yourbrand.com.ng | yourbrand.ng |
| Best for | Businesses and companies | Short brand names, apps, campaigns |
| Who can register | Anyone | Anyone |
| First year at Hostnali | ₦12,500 | ₦27,250 |
| Renewal | ₦12,500 | ₦27,250 |
When to choose .com.ng
Nigerian customers have seen .com.ng on business websites for years, so it reads straight away as “a company in Nigeria”. It’s the affordable, safe choice for most businesses.
When to choose .ng
A .ng address is shorter and more modern, and good names are often still free under .ng when the .com.ng is taken. It suits brands, startups, apps and campaigns.
Other Nigerian extensions
NiRA also runs .org.ng for NGOs and associations, .net.ng for internet businesses and .name.ng for personal sites. Some extensions, such as .edu.ng and .gov.ng, are restricted to eligible institutions.
Our advice: register the .com.ng of your name, add the .ng if it’s free, and point both to the same website. See prices on the .com.ng and .ng pages.
